China Mobile releases 17 6G innovation achievements, cross-border layout promotes model innovation

Recently, China Mobile Research Institute held the "Meet the Future - 6G Collaborative Innovation Achievement Conference" online, and released 8 white papers on key 6G technologies, including a number of Chinese original technologies.At the meeting, China Mobile Research Institute collaborated with various innovation consortia to present 6G innovation achievements, including 6G vision, Metaverse, 6G network, 6G air interface, new platform, new device and new application, etc., covering 6G vision and new applications.There are a total of 17 collaborative innovation achievements, including requirements, Metaverse technology overview, Metaverse cloud 3D reconstruction, Metaverse AR riding, 6G network architecture overview, and digital twin network.


A number of collaborative innovation achievements are based on original technology


Gao Tongqing, deputy general manager of China Mobile, said at the meeting that China Mobile will be the source of original technology and the leader of the modern industrial chain, integrate into the overall situation of my country's 6G innovation work, and vigorously carry out 6G research and development work.China Mobile has established the Future Research Institute, established an innovative consortium with in-depth cooperation with several universities, and increased joint research on basic theories, key technologies, and interdisciplinary integration technologies.


Zhang Ping, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said that Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications has maintained a good cooperative relationship with China Mobile. Recently, the 6G Joint Innovation Center and the Zhongguancun Innovation Institute have been established to aggregate 6G innovation resources, cultivate 6G high-end talents, and explore new ways of 6G innovation.paradigm.It is hoped that China Mobile can further play the role of a world-class operator, release more scientific research needs, fully integrate with the scientific research advantages of universities, and jointly contribute more to my country's 6G development.


Cui Tiejun, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that information metamaterials have become a hot research technology for 6G. The biggest feature is that they can process electromagnetic waves and digital information at the same time, simplify the communication system architecture, and even build a new system architecture.It is hoped that on the basis of the gratifying results obtained in the previous cooperation between the two parties, universities, China Mobile and the industry will work together to accelerate the promotion of 6G application basic research and original technology research, and enhance my country's 6G innovation level and international influence.

The white paper depicts a new business model in the 6G era


At the meeting, China Mobile released eight 6G key technology white papers, namely "6G Holographic Communication Business Development Trend", "6G Simplified Radio Access Network", "6G Service-oriented RAN", "6G Wireless Network Autonomy Based on Digital Twin Network", "6G Wireless Network Autonomy"6G Wireless Endogenous AI Architecture and Technology, "6G Physical Layer AI Key Technologies", "6G Information Metamaterial Technology", "6G Visible Light Communication Technology".Yi Zhiling, chief scientist of China Mobile Research Institute, said that these eight 6G key technology white papers have received strong support from four partners and related experts from Tsinghua University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Southeast University, and Zhongguancun Innovation Institute.


"What kind of new business model will be in the 6G era is something that everyone is very curious about. We believe that the holographic communication business can provide the ultimate experience of highly immersive natural interaction and will be a major model in the future."Yi Zhiling said.The "6G Holographic Communication Business Development Trend" white paper extracts eight typical characteristics and related key technologies for the optical stage, digital stage and computing stage of holographic communication development;The large application scenarios also sort out key network requirements and technical bottlenecks.


Various new services and new scenarios will bring new demands and challenges to the 6G network. How to simplify the network and strengthen functions while meeting the diverse demands is the most important part of the white paper "6G to Simplified Radio Access Network".The research topic, the white paper initially proposed new architectural ideas, including the decoupling of signaling cells and data cells and related flexible link adaptation, and also proposed key technologies including plug-and-play management and orchestration.

The "6G Service-based RAN" white paper mainly studies the IT basic technology route after the continuation of virtualization and cloud technology.Yi Zhiling said that this evolution path gradually penetrates from the core network to the access network, and finally expects to achieve end-to-end overall and efficient dynamic sharing of resources.From the perspective of protocol stack, this white paper analyzes and thinks how to provide a wireless access network architecture from virtualization and cloudification to service-oriented, including interface, control plane, user plane, and extending to terminal, ICDT and even OTFusion of technologies.


China Mobile has released the first white paper on digital twin network last year. The "6G Wireless Network Autonomy Based on Digital Twin Network" released this time, based on the previous digital twin network architecture, newly proposed "three bodies and five states".The basic concept of "double closed loop" systematically expounds the concept and technical characteristics of the digital twin network to realize the efficient closed loop and autonomous capability of the 6G network throughout the life cycle. It is hoped that the use of this technology can achieve the goal of improving efficiency and reducing costs.


The white paper "6G Wireless Endogenous AI Architecture and Technology" further introduces new resource dimensions such as models, calculation examples, and data. On the basis of the expanded control plane and data plane, it also adds architectural thinking on the intelligent plane and computing plane., and also proposed some new technologies, which is a very important milestone. It is hoped that the architecture and technology of wireless endogenous AI can truly be implemented before 2030.

The white paper "Key Technologies of AI in the 6G Physical Layer" proposes data set construction methods, evaluation criteria, indicators and how to generalize these solutions, especially focusing on the introduction of artificial intelligence MIMO enhancement technology, while further sorting out and strengthening ChinaMobile has always advocated the dual-driven concept of data and model.When artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies are introduced into the physical layer, will there be a different way of thinking about the standard formulation of the physical layer in the future?In addition to many necessary considerations in data collection, it will also achieve greater flexibility due to the introduction of machine learning and artificial intelligence, hoping to simplify the standard formulation of the physical layer in the 6G era.


6G information metamaterial technology is a technology that is currently attracting global attention.Yi Zhiling said that the "6G Information Metamaterial Technology" white paper considers the challenges and limitations of materials, devices and system scenarios from a very pragmatic perspective.The white paper proposes a three-step working mode: the first step is the static and semi-static working mode; the second step is the channel transparent working mode, with certain limitations in performance and functions; the third step is the channel opaque ultimate mode.The associated challenges and possible limitations are also identified in the white paper.


Visible light communication has been studied by many scientists in the 4G and 5G periods.
